Welcome to this new Wiki page :

Various studies show how at any age children can be presented with books which encourage visual literacy skills. In simple words it is the ability to read a story using the pictures as reference. At this stage our Pre-Junior children can also invent narratives, develop their sense of story, demonstrate an understanding of sequence, practice oral story telling skills and last but not least blending three letter words.

Children now are fully armed with the basic skills of reading, now its only up to us to promote and encourage this skill.
How can we do this?
  • us as reading models
  • shared reading with our children
  • environmental print reading - encouraging children to read or spell out any letters/words that they see in the environment around them
  • library trips
  • a build up of age appropriate books at home
